Did we hit our head and fall through the looking glass?

One would assume that maintaining client contact details is a fundamental responsibility of admin.

Indeed it was until admin realised there was no written procedure in place.

So elementary a procedure that a week ago it  presented no difficulty but this week it is beyond their pay grade.

Am I the only one to see the absurdity of this? That absence of ‘written procedure’ is the latest excuse why they can’t possibly do what they are paid to do.

Incredulous we asked the powers to be, ‘Why can’t they do it?’

‘There is no written procedure.’ Stonewalled.

‘Why does admin suddenly need a written procedure when previously there has been none and they have been in the job for the last five years?’

‘There is no written procedure.  If you want admin to do it then you will have to write a procedure until then you will have to do it. ‘

Silently we were fuming ‘Are you f**king kidding me?’ Interestingly  admin doesn’t  need a  ‘written procedure’ to make coffee or play with their iPhone but anything work related and we need a ‘written procedure’.

So I off to copy and paste from the user manual (with embellishments)  :).
